New performance standards for the long-range Gulfstream G500 and G600 Bizjets have been announced by Gulfstream Aerospace after results from the rigorous flight-test programme showed the all-new aircraft exceeded expectations
The company says the G600 on entry into service will deliver 6,500nmi (12,038km) of range at Mach 0.85, an increase of 300nmi (556km). At a high-speed cruise of Mach 0.90, Gulfstream says the aircraft will deliver 5,100nmi (9,445km).Figures for the G500 show it can fly 5,200nmi (9,630km) at its long-range cruise speed of Mach 0.85. At Mach 0.90, the G500 will offer 4,400nmi (8,149km) of range, a 600nmi (1,111km) increase over the projected figure of 3,800nmi (7,038km).
Gulfstream president Mark Burns said: We found we had the time and ability to enhance G500 and G600 performance and give our customers a business-jet family better than the one we promised them.
To demonstrate the increased range, a fully-outfitted G500 set a potential city-pair record between London and Las Vegas, flying 4,690nmi (8,686km) at an average Mach 0.88 with a 32knot headwind. The record is awaiting confirmation from the US National Aeronautic Association. Courtesy of BTN.
