Martyn L. Thompson
A diverse aircraft engineering career encompassing general / corporate aviation and the airlines, which includes histories as Chief Engineer and Quality Assurance Manager, Martyn has continually excelled in providing an overall experience level, professional approach and a ‘kiwi’ can-do attitude.
Qualifications include a New Zealand Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers License (LAME), gained 1991 and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) gained also 1991. In 2001 Martyn was approved and also achieved an FAA Inspection Authorization (IA).
In 2002 Martyn was invited by the San Francisco – FAA International Field Office to become an FAA Designee, a privilege to say the least. After scrutiny and acceptance by the FAA NEB Board he attended an initial Designee Standardization Seminar with the FAA in Oklahoma City; this allowed Martyn to be acceptable and qualified as a Designated Airworthiness Representative – Maintenance (DAR-T). Appointment was granted on June 30, 2004.

FAA DAR Current Function Codes include 101, 102, 103, 104, 171, 172, 173 and 174.
Previously appointed as a Bermuda Department of Civil Aviation – Designated Airworthiness Inspector DAI. This included initial and recurring certificate of airworthiness issue, export certificate of airworthiness issue, special flight permit issue, continuous airworthiness management organization initial and recurrent audits, and Part 145 Repair Station audits worldwide. Due to DAR commitments Martyn resigned from the position in 2014.
Experience Summary
Aviation Corporation Ltd; 1985 -1989 - Began 5 year aircraft engineering apprenticeship which included general aviation and corporate aircraft experience. Everything from a Cessna 150, Beech King Air, Hawker 800, Bell Helicopter 206 to a Douglas DC3 and Bristol Type 170 Freighter.
Air New Zealand Ltd; 1989 - 1997 - Transferred apprenticeship due to previous company closure. Completed apprenticeship and gained line, sheet metal, composite, engine and hangar experience on Boeing aircraft including 727, 737, 767, 747 series.
Aeroflight Holdings Ltd; 1993 - Present - Initially as a part time business and later from 1997 as a contractor, maintenance controller and independent FAA A&P, IA, DAR-T.
Conclusion
Martyn is in a position to provide a professional, expeditious and quality contract service when required. Previously this has included FAA Special Flight Permits, Export and Standard Certificate of Airworthiness issue, technical and customer support together with aircraft records inspection and auditing.
Martyn thrives on new experiences, meeting new people and the challengers involved with ‘getting the job done’. Providing a credible, efficient, long term service and availability is his goal. Additionally as a New Zealander 'kiwi' with an APEC (Business Travel Card) Martyn is able to generally travel unrestricted to almost every Asian destination including the USA etc and no Visa’s required.
Martyn offers decades of combined engineering experience and regional know-how, but more importantly you get an individual who is laser-focused on getting you to completion.
